Unfortunately we have recently lost a young member of our club with the tragic passing of Vance Williams. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the families of both Vance and the others involved in this tragedy.
Vance and his family have been involved with the Waihi Miners Inline Hockey Club for many years. As well as playing, Vance stepped up to roles as both coach and referee at times. This last season he was an integral part of the awesome U18 team as well as standing in as goalie for a very appreciative Senior Social side.
Hockey wasn't the only sport Vance loved. He loved the outdoors and was involved in a number of other sports such as Rugby and Surfing. Camping and getting into the bush pig-hunting was high on Vance's list of enjoyable outings.
Vance was well known in the Waihi and especially the Waihi Beach community where he lived. The numbers at his funeral bore this out with a huge attendance of local people. Others came from far and wide to attend his send-off. Even for those that didn't know Vance well, It was easy to realise from the many stories that were told, that Vance was a loving, sharing and caring young man, who made the most of his short time with us.
Vance's passing leaves a huge hole in our hearts - he will be sorely missed.
