NEWS: Excellent time at the Queens Birthday Junior Tournament

The Annual Queens Birthday Tournament was a huge success enjoyed by all our Club members. I was proud to be a Miners Mum. Our teams did us all proud playing with great sportsmanship and team spirit. The teams looked pretty smart in their new pants - thanks so much Tina for organising this. It was fantastic to see the teams supporting each other in the stands well done guys and girls!

It was the first tournament for a number of our ‘Mini’ Miners- some more mini than others! The U10 played really well with the Miners ‘give it all you’ve got’ attitude. Our import from the Renegades was a huge asset to the team and it was great to have him on board. Wee Dylan Lovell had his debut at this tournamant and I am sure will be playing some top level hockey in the future. The team won Bronze medals and although I was unable to be at the ceremony because of the last U14 Semi Final I bet there were some pretty big smiles at prizegiving!

The Miners White team are amazing - you guys ROCK. The competition was pretty stiff for them at times but they never gave up and always came off the rink smiling. Nick Barakat was a great asset to the team, surprising the opposition with his amazing strong shots. The team played really well together and I’m sure will continue to do so in the future. I am sure Chris did not stop smiling all weekend!

Miners Gold played some awesome hockey. I think we showed what we were capable of by keeping some of those other teams at bay for so long. A 1-0 half time score against the Renegades (the eventual winners) at half time was amazing, as was the battle for bronze at the end. We never gave up and have shown the other teams in the league that we too are a force to be reckoned with. It was a huge shame to see our wicked defence Brittles injured but she is on the mend and will be with us again soon. Neither U14 team came home with medals but all had a heap of fun and after all that’s what it is all about.

The fun and action did not only happen on the rink. We had great sideline support from the parents and other Miners supporters. Big Dillon fell and hurt his knee which is devastating as he’s almost back on skates after his broken ankle. Tina deserves her own medal for being there with her little ones and an endless supply of food every day... Asse was up on the top of the stands clicking away getting lots of photos of our young stars. Simon was busy trying to justify why he looked like he’d come straight from the bush. Of course there was the one and only Rosie who could be heard as soon as you walked in the doors (if she was in full flight) Sharon and Nicola were there, both calming influences on the benches. Our sleep deprived President was caught napping on the couch at the front door - where is a camera when you need it! Our Miners ‘family’ was a great place to be this weekend. So... well done guys I was proud to be a miners mum.

PS. Huge thanks to Max and the team for organising such a fantastic tournament.
